A 14-year-old youth was found dead just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that Kai had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a young adult urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from school staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The court heard his parents said they never got that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed while inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to discern his intent."
