Secretary of State Briefly Halts Trump with Handwritten Note on Middle East Peace Deal
A urgent handwritten message delivered to the President by his top diplomat, Marco Rubio, suggested that an announcement regarding a peace agreement in Gaza might be made imminently.
Captured in a image, the note's text encouraged the president to authorize a message on his social media platform to break the news first.
"Very close," it stated, according to the image. "You are needed to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first."
Not long after the note was revealed, Trump published on his platform, expressing he was "extremely pleased" to reveal the first phase of the agreement.
"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Long-lasting, and Everlasting Peace," he stated.
The Moment the Note Was Handed to Trump
Trump was conducting a roundtable event with conservative influencers about antifa when Rubio, positioned in the rear of the White House's Blue Room, caught his eye.
He had news for Trump, he said, but it would have to wait until after the press departed. Subsequently, Rubio handed the president the message.
"I just received a note by the secretary of state saying that we're very close to a deal on the Middle East, and they're gonna need me soon," Trump said. "Therefore, we will address a couple of more questions."
Background of the Peace Talks
The meeting had already been underway for more than an hour when Rubio first approached. The president welcomed him to enter, and Rubio whispered something to Trump before giving him the note.
The note's urgent tone came as Trump's top Middle East adviser, Steve Witkoff, Qatari PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and other high-ranking diplomats participated in a third round of negotiations between Israel and Hamas at an Egyptian resort – a sign that delegates are working to dive deeply into the most challenging topics of a American proposal to end the war in Gaza.
Trump's Remarks on Overseas Trip
Trump had begun the gathering by telling assembled journalists that he planned to travel to the Middle East "toward the end of the week" and could even "make the rounds" in the region to Cairo and perhaps Gaza as US negotiators closed in on a deal.
Still, even after Rubio passed Trump the note, Trump kept speaking to the influencers and take questions from the media as the secretary of state became visibly anxious.
Concluding the Event
Almost 10 minutes after his initial comments about departing, Trump said: "I must leave now to try and resolve some problems in the Middle East – although I'm very well represented by our secretary of state. He could likely do an more effective job than me, but who knows."
"We wish to avoid to take any chances. So we're going to go and do that," Trump added.
He then suggested that Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem stay and answer inquiries in his absence. Nonetheless, Trump continued to take questions before the event concluded without Cabinet members remaining behind.
"We will achieve peace in the Middle East," Trump wrapped by saying. "That's what we want to do."
